Company profile

Year founded

1899

Number of employees

500-750 (at the Stabio premises alone)

Activities

VF Corporation controls over 30 casual clothing and sportswear brands and thousands of shops in every corner of the globe; names connected to the multinational include Lee, Wrangler, Eastpak, The North Face, Napapijri, Vans and Timberland. It has a turnover of over $12 billion, and is one of the world’s largest businesses in this sector.

Premises in the region

Since 2013, VF International's headquarters for the European market has been based in Stabio, a new building which took two years to complete. Previously, the group's only premises in Ticino were in Pazzallo.

Links with Ticino

  • VF International chose Ticino for the site of its headquarters (first in Pazzallo, and then Stabio);
  • the plant in Stabio was built from scratch: the first stone was laid at the end of 2010, and the building was officially opened around two years later (see video);
  • every year the company organises VF Community Day, a day when employees offer their support to local organisations and associations by carrying out various tasks: from helping out on the La Fattoria farm in Cureglia (managed by the OTAF Foundation) to cleaning up the woodland in Mendrisiotto.

Curiosità in cifre

  • over 30: the number of clothing brands owned by VF Corporation;
  • 60%: the percentage of reclaimed timber used in the construction of the Stabio plant, whilst the remaining 40% was FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certified;
  • 12: the number of people who can enter and work in the 'gondola', one of the most imaginative conference rooms in the building (see video).

Results and achievements

VF International's new-build headquarters in Stabio is innovative from several different points of view, not least in terms of environmental considerations, with sustainable heating and lighting systems (see video). More generally, the multinational is continually cementing its position as a global leader in the sports and casualwear sector, and has launched a development plan which aims to achieve a turnover of $17 billion by 2017 (Vf17x17).
